New Wow Expansion! I Still Don't Care!

Blizzard has announced yet another expansion for World of Warcraft, yet I still refuse to care about an MMO since I waste enough of my time fucking around and not nearly enough actually being productive, no matter haw many people I know play WoW.

Let's put it this way, I maintain two blogs and go to school full time. Do I sound like I really have a life, particularly if I get a job? Do I really want to waste more of that time on WoW? I'll leave this expansion to the WoW nerds and will continue to pass this series up until the Naga are made playable for the Horde. THAT will make me buy this.

Why the Naga? Look at this guy:
How do you not want to play as him with those massive jaws and giant bulky muscles. Oh, he's a fucking FISH! How sweet is it to go into PvP and pwn people on LAND as a FISH?!?! And they'd be a great addition to the Horde (pandaren for the Alliance) since their classes will differ between male and female with the females being mages and the males being warriors. Oh, and did I mention that you're playing as an incredibly badass FISH?!?!

Like seriously, how many fish are there that can kick your ass that aren't Naga? It's going to be like walking into a bazaar, getting into a fight where with a bunch of guys with knives, taking a fish off one of the counters and winning by slapping them to death with a fish! It's going going into battle and instead of shouting LEEROY JENKINS!!!!!!!! You instead shout out, FUCK YEAH! SEAKING! And then all of your teammates will be in awe as you pwn your way through enemies since you're a fish, and they're not. And they're jealous that you have that fishy smell. Oh, and you're on a boat, motherfucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is probably the most nonsensical post that I've made yet, but I'm tired, I feel sick, and I feel like ranting. So bleh.

Thoughts on Real Time Melee Combat

One thing that I've always hated about melee combat in action games and action RPGs is that enemies always seem to wait before attacking. They are seldom aggressive, never challenging and when one is left, he never gets desperate, he instead sticks to the same waiting before attacking and never blocking attack pattern that they use in groups. Assassin's Creed was an improvement since enemies at least blocked and were far more aggressive than enemies in most other games were. That still doesn't make them anywhere near as bloodthirsty as an enemy in most shooters or 3D platformers.

With all of the improvements that we hear about in shooters, isn't it about time that a melee combat game finally gets some enemies that will attack you relentlessly, with the absolutely unheard of idea of two enemies attacking at once? The only game that has really embraced this idea that I've played in this generation of consoles was Oblivion. (I didn't get around to Ninja Giaden 2, but I've heard that it's very much the same.)

The real question that the gaming industry has to ask themselves is why does every game that has an emphasis on melee combat have to use the same AI patterns from the PSX-era? Having seen gameplay from Batman: Arkham Asylum, it appears that this trend is still alive and well. I'll still probably enjoy the game when it comes out in a few days but the AI still feels extremely backwards for 2009.

Batman: Arkham Asylum leaked in LA six days early

Now I really fucking hate the midwest.

Meet Grunt

What every RPG needs but what the first Mass Effect was lacking, a complete psychopath who only joins you so he can kill shit. And yes, every RPG series needs this archetype since he's a badass.

Oh, and the Dragon Age item was revealed it's it's some pretty cool looking armor. I still want that night vision sausage, though.

Classic games that need to be available for Xbox Live Arcade

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Final Fantasy VI
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (either Dreamcast or PSP version)
Quake
Deus Ex
Fallout 2
Daggerfall
Counter Strike (original PC version)
Baldur's Gate
Diablo II
Rage of the Dragons
X-Men: Children of the Atom
Front Mission (SNES version)
Hitman: Codename 47
Soldier of Fortune
Myst
Power Stone

I'm aware that newer versions of many of these games came out on either a handheld or on another system's download service (Steam, PSN or Virtual Console) but Microsoft should still make them available for the 360.

Are these really our only options?

When it comes to arcade sticks for the XBOX 360, there are only two options, the Hori DOA4 arcade stick which is too small to be effective and has a short joystick, and the $165 Arcade-in-a-box stick. Given that fighting games are finally making a comeback, I find that the new Street Fighter games are nearly unplayable due to the 360 controller. Using the left bumper for a hard punch simply isn't the most efficient of ways to attack and Microsoft should create a peripheral for the XBOX 360 that is an affordable and efficient arcade stick.

I'm not entirely sure why Microsoft didn't get into this market themselves back in 2005, but we, the players are certainly suffering for that decision now.

Dragon Age: Why it's Going to Rock

This game isn't going to rock because it's a Bioware Game, it's going to rock because of teh way that it constructs mortality. There is no good or evil system in this game yet your choices still matter. For instance, killing people for no reason isn't going to help your reputation but when faced with a choice that can't be said to be good or evil, you're more free to make your own decisions based on how you feel since there is simply no universal moraly, something that was the entire basis for the writings of the Marquis de Sade (a man who sadly isn't seen as the genius that he was) and was later adapted by Satre.

This freedom to decide right and wrong for yourself and form your own morality is an exiting and original take on the RPG genre and this is on my "must play" list for this autumn.

The Brilliance of the TPM Chip

It's old news but I'm happy to know that the TPM chip is out there and preventing newer games from being pirated. If you don't recognize how much hard work goes into making a game then you can STFU. This blog is for REAL video game fans who actually own a console and either own physical games or download them through Steam. And if older games like Fianl Fantasy VI and Street Fighter Alpha 3 were put on Steam or XBOX live, I'd rather have the legal version than an emulated one and I'm buying perfect Dark for Xbox 36o as soon as it comes out. I am a tool, but at least I recognize the value of work. Now excuse me while I go steal a car. :P
